Funny alternative nativity scenes

Tis the season. Time for a little pop culture fun. Some of the best alternative nativety scenes that remind us all to take religion a little less seriously.

Thanks to Buzfeed for the tip off on this one.

Promentheus. Ridley Scotts prequel to Alien. Epic!

This look like its shaping up to be an absolute epic. Set before cult classic Alien, Promentheus is due for release in June 2012.

"Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life's ultimate mystery."

2012 is shaping up to be a good year in film!

Beautiful Star Wars Photography

French photographer Cedric Delsaux has creatated some of the sexiest Star Wars fan art i've ever seen. The movie charactors are placed in real life urban wastlands, scrap yards and construction areas which Cedric describes as peripheral zones of modern cities.

Thanks for the tip off Geek Tyrant

Life size Gundam robot back in Tokyo

We were saddened to bring you the news Tokyo's giant robot was being dismantled a few months back, but we are happy to see it back...

I cant help but think they were working on his internal parts so he can be 'switched on' when we're least expecting it!

Auckland Art & Craft Market 2011

This year we decided to have a shot at one of the biggest art and craft market in NZ. Landing just before xmas we knew it was going to be busy. We did much better then expected (which usually happens when you have no expectations at all) Hopefully made a few new fans and got a chance to chat to people face to face.

Science tattoos. Geeky ink.

Back in the day we bought you some of the coolest robot tattoos we could find. Today we explore what happens when Science and skin art collide.

Darwins Finches, brilliant. The best demonstration of Mr.Ds theory now celebrated on the forearm of a human being.

Star Trek crew forced to watch Star Wars!

This is brilliant, a video mashup that forces the crew of the Starship Enterprise into watching StarWars (big screen). Nicely pasted together for amusing affect, as our long term fans would know we have a hobby of mismatching footage to make new 'art' Remember?...

Cybermen want you! Dr Who streetwear t-shirt release

For this release we wanted to pay homage to the Cybermen and help them convey their instructions to mankind. This Cyberman agenda, in the fashion of an old army propaganda poster, i suppose this would be their marketing campaign.

cybermen_want_you_tshirt
Here is our latest design, Cybermen want you! Released exclusively at our last Sci-Fi expo, its now available to all through our online store.

If you are unaware, the Cybermen are a notorious Dr Who villain. Said to be from Earths twin planet Mondas they were once like humans, but have artificially upgraded their bodies to what they believe is a superior form. They have upgraded so far that they have lost there human like compassion. They attempt, when ever possible, to 'convert' humans into Cybermen. They are governed by a cold faceless company called Cybus Industries. Wiki knows much more about Cybermen then i ever will

Cuppa-T at NZ Sci-Fi expo Armageddon

Sorry for the lack of activity on the site recently, we've been head down and knee deep in preparation for the 2011 Armageddon show here in Auckland NZ. We had an amazing time and wouldn't have missed it for the world (or even the Moon!). Thanks everyone who attended and stopped by for your fantastic response to our brand, great to meet such like minded people who understand what we are about. Some of our stock lines are now pretty depleted (including the new releases) due to popularity on the day, but our print shop is working hard to top that back up. Id just like to remind new and seasoned readers that we are just a very small organisation (myself and my partner) who are simply passionate about producing a unique brand of the highest quality. Each sale we made or person that paid genuine interest made our day, every one helps so much to continue our project.

So it turns out the empire approves of Cuppa-T, fancy that.

Some sort of mixed universe battle that i think confused just about everybody!

Big thanks to Emmaline Bailey, my partner in crime who donated many hours of her time to the cause at the expense of her own ventures in painting and jewellery making. If your looking for that snazzy gift for someone for xmas give her shop a look.

Birth of the Hoverboard! Quantum Levitation.

Ok, so we don't really know whats going on here, but we do know it looks like we're getting a little closer to the 'future' we were promised! With Back to the future 2 set in 2015, we are indeed making good progress for the real life Hoverboard!

All i actually want to know about this technology is one thing...when can we add it to cars and skateboards?

Disney characters off the rails

Although a little completely crude, this collection of re-imagined cartoon characters will crush the seemingly immortal squeaky clean image Disney has worked so hard to build. Artist José Rodolfo Loaiza Ontiveros is responsible. Check that fella out...

Thyanks for the lead BitRebel

Cuppa-T brand will be at Armageddon expo Auckland 2011

Ok, this has been bubbling under the surface for a week or so but its time to make the big reveal! Cuppa-T will have a store at Armageddon 2011. The biggest Pulp culture, sci-fi, comic, gaming, anime expo in New Zealand! This is huge news to us, and we are mega exited to be reping our brand to the New Zealand masses and have big plans for this epic 4 DAY event  from 28th-31st October

We've got more then one EXCLUSIVE Armageddon t-shirt release, along with a super competition. Dont worry if you find yourself geographicly unable to attend the event here in Auckland NZ. We'll be running a soon to be released competition for our online fans throughout the event. Watch this space for details.

Superheroes before they were born

So you thought you'd seen your favorite super heroes in every interpretation possible? Well i bet you haven't seen them as unborn fetuses!? Alexandre Nicolas has done this, take a lookseys.

Monowheel. One wheeled motorbike!

You should know us by now, we love anything that makes us feel like were in the future a little bit *enter monowheel* Ryno motors have just announced that they will soon be releasing the Monowheel for a resonable $4,200 usd. Dont think for one minute that the sports bike-esque appearance is just for style. This baby uses the same technology base as the popular Segway but with some serious horse power.

Now this thing looks straight bad boy and Sci-Fi by its self but i have to admit seeing the thing with a rider it looks a little dorky and odd, I think its how the rider is sat so upright and the guy is a little sheepish. Regardles, its still cool (i think) Maybe a stunt rider and a top notch film maker should put together a launch vid?

I can only Imagen slamming on the breaks at high speed!

Thanks Bit Rebels

Cuppa-T in Common

We're currently being stocked in the cool little shop on K'rd Auckland named COMMON. Filled with top notch tshirt art from their own brand BearTrap and a host of other local designers. Come down check it out, but be quick, Common are relocating to Melbourn mid October, so if you want to see the goods first get a move on!

Great Scott! McFly back to the future kicks WILL become a reality!

BREAKING NEWS!... we've known/hoped that this day would come since we posted great news on Nikes patent information back in 2010. Yes, its official Nike have announced they will be releasing replica sneakers based on those from worn by Marty McFly in Back to the Future 2. Originals have fetched mega bucks in recent auctions and as mentioned in our earlier post die hard fans have created working prototypes to the power lace system. 2015 is not that far away guys, we've gotta get this and the hoverboard nailed SOON!

Thanks SneakerFreaker for the info and THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU Nike for doing this ;-)

*Update- official release vid*

And 1500 pairs have been constructed, all auctioned and all proceeds going to the Micheal J Fox Parkinsons foundation. Cant knock the cause, thats awesome, but they are definitely out of reach to the masses ;-(

Doc Brown of Back to the Future back on the screen.

Aha, last week we posted on the first sighting of the doc in a South American viral ad. It turns out we guessed right that it was an ad for the electronics store the Delorian piles into. Anyways, here is the 'sequal' featuring the Doc comparing current electronics to his own wacky inventions!

Best sci-fi themed t-shirts you can buy right now! Street wear 2011

If theres one thing we know here at Cuppa-T, its science fiction themed tshirts. As designers of such shirts, we always pay special attention to the pop sci-fi niche. We wanted to point you fellas in the direction of some more great brands and credit their creators with the exposure they deserve. Most of the featured shirts here are from small and independent designers, supporting them by picking up a shirt or two will help them pump out more amazing work. We've tryed to avoid non independent companies or 'print on demand' style companies, however the odd few from these categories have still proven worthy of (deep voice) the list ;-)

1. 'Brand Wars: Jedi' from HtCRU

Not strictly a t-shirt (so lets just get it out the way), but part of the same family. Part of the Brand Wars series by designer Barn Bocock

2.'Brand Wars: Sith' from HtCRU

Have a scan through HtCRU's portfolio to see some more of there 'brand wars' concepts. Hopefully they plan to release more soon.

3. Tardis Service and Repair Manual by Adho1982

Ive seen a few other 'repair manual' parodies, but i find the boringness of the Tardis coupled with the mundane feel of the 'manual' hilarious.

4. Disc Tron by 80sTees. Thing i really dig about this tee is it has the same raw and basic feel to it as the original movie, i think the word im after is authentic.

5.Omni Consumer Products by Last Exit to Nowhere. One of the more subtle sci-fi references (which is what we like about it) OCP is the megacorporation that pretty much controls everything in Detroit in the Robocop series.

6. Delorean Schematic by 80sTees

7. The Madness of Mission 6 by Travis Pitts on Threadless. Great alternative Pacman reference.

8. Upgrade or you will be deleted. from Stylin Online. Really good imperial propaganda styling of the Doctor Who Cybermens mantra.

9. Dream Levels from Busted Tees. Simple and classy illustration of levels of conciousness based on the film Inception.

10. Change by Last Exit to Nowhere.

Not normally a fan of the Obama parody designs but this one made me chuckle, plus the world should see more of the orignal Hulk!

11. Hoverboards by Cuppa-T

Fictional print ad for the illusive Hoverboard in the fitting style of a classic comic book add. Not long now till the 2015 release date, according to this back to the Future tribute and the movie, that is ;-)

12. Support your Local Scientist by Cuppa-T.

General science propaganda and at the same time a subtle Back to the Future tribute. Doc Brown deserves it!

13. Bounty Hunter by Beast Wreck. BRILLIANT anime depiction of the gallaxies #1 mercinary. Best Boba Fett illustration ive seen in a long time.

14. Beastwreck Attacks by Beast Wreck. Inspired by vintage Mars Attacks artwork.

15. Pocket Rocket by Bear Trap. Oozing nostalgia from an optimistic past. This tidy design sums up my childhood quite well.

16. Singularity by Imaginary Foundation.

Ive always had a funny relationship with the Imaginary Foundation. I like the brand in theory, they have some great ideas and take their agenda seriously, but aestheticly very few of there releases work for me. This is the case for Singularity. Followers of Cuppa-T will know that we support any publicity for the Singularity and regardless of my opinion Imaginary Foundation are doing really well (keep it up guys) Nice to see that geek can pay!

17. At-At blueprint by Addict. Addict are well established in the Uk and have won over alot of geek votes in recent times with there superb Star Wars collabs. All the Blue Print Series are perfectly executed, but i find this the best.

18. Luke Pilot by Addict.

Is it just me or is Star Wars and other 'geeky' sci-fi trending like crazy in the world of street wear atm?

19. Science! from Amorphia Apparel.

We love Amorphia Apparels 'Science' series art work. Wish they were not through a POD service but hey, still brilliant work.

20. 'Astrodunk' from UNDRCRWN.

NBA vs. NASA, great mashup of street culture and space exploration. Get it straight from UNDRCRWN here.

undrcrwn_space_man_nba

This post is by no means a closed book we are going to continue adding as we see fit. If you feel you've got a shirt that fits this niche list and want it included, comment bellow and we'll consider including it.
