The Lunar Embassy and cosmic commerce...
If you have ever looked into moon land you will have undoubtedly heard of Mr Dennis Hope, the self proclaimed Big Cheese of the Lunar embassy and the Galactic Government. In 1980 Hope recalled the 1967 U.N. Outer Space Treaty, which stipulates that no government can own extraterrestrial property. But as Hope says, "it neglected to mention individuals or corporations." based on this 'loop hole' he has built his empire. This argument is apposed by people, claiming no solid ownership can ever be obtained (but what do 'people' know). Over the years many other similar companies have risen but usually collapsed after conflictions with the L.E and there are several property outlets who have official association with Mr Hope, but if you were going to buy, were would you go? were gonna take you through some of your options...
First we will look at Lunarland.com with the confident tagline 'Earths oldest, most Recognised Celestrial Real Estate Agency' a claim i have no idea is true, but lets go with it. They are an authorised reseller of the L.Es product and are definitely the most professionally presented organisation which fills me with confidence. A nice looking Lunar Deed, Map and Moon Rules are included in the standard deal of $29.99 for a square acre. The best part of this deal? The Packaging! No joke, your certificates come sealed in a foil space age bag, with authentic feeling 'space mission' art work-class. *Update- Bummed to find Lunarland will only deal inside USA :-(
Want to shop around further? Try the Lunar Registry they are a company that has no association with L.E and sell based on there own 'Lunar Republic Society' The website is basic, which says one of two things 1) They cowboys! 2) They very serious and functional in what they do- you decide. Lunar Registry win slogan wars hands down with"Nothing could be greater then to own your own crater" They have a great selection and well described locations on offer from 'Sea of Tranquility' (were Apollo landed) to 'Sea of Vapours' budget property (in rocky wild surroundings)Prices range from $19.99-$34.25 and come with usual certificates.*Worldwide dealings :-)
Buyuranus.com embrace the novelty comedic aspect of purchasing a plot exclusively on...you guessed it Uranus, and take the obvious toilet-humor approach. They offer the standard certificates and the relatively reasonable price of $19.95USD for one HUGE square mile! but my personal fave is the included bumper sticker stating 'I Own Uranus!'*Worldwide dealings :-)
If im gonna pin my dreams on one of these 'entrepreneurs' it would have to be the daddy Lunarland.com, although a high $29.99 the quality is convincing in the organisation of the site and that all important foil packaging!
Hats off to you Mr Hope, for you have built yourself on a loophole no-one else saw, and may you blur the line between novelty and investment for many years to come.
