Nike must have herd our call. They have patented the powerlace design. Here is what they locked in...'An article of footwear with an automatic lacing system is disclosed. The automatic lacing system provides a set of straps that can be automatically opened and closed to switch between a loosened and tightened position of the upper. The article further includes an automatic ankle cinching system that is configured to automatically adjust an ankle portion of the upper.

It gets better! Power Laces 2.0 are here. After the big positive response the creator received on version 1.0 they decided to take it to the next level. Power Lace 2.0 prototype manages to conceal the guts inside the heal. Despite recent news of the Nike patent they claim there design will differentiate itself from other powered lace systems and Nike may not pursue any time soon. They have the project up on Kickstrarter to raise funds for development. I urge everyone to donate atleast $5 (USD) to this worthy cause...Powerlaces.com
